Launching Virgin Media’s platform Stream and bringing TV 2.0 to life...

The future of viewing is here. Virgin Media’s latest product Stream offers customers a new way of bringing together their favourite TV channels, video apps and streaming subscriptions all in one place at great value, powered by Virgin Media's leading broadband services.

To consolidate Virgin Media’s role as innovative leaders in the industry and showcase the power of Stream, we were told to reimagine a traditional media press launch and design an experience that would get attendees talking in a fun, engaging way. We turned a traditional press conference on its head, giving Virgin Media leads an opportunity to introduce industry and media professionals to the product with a bang.

Our world is technologically charged and our audiences need more ways to stay connected to their loyal brands. To showcase the innovation of Stream, we utilised unique audio and visual enhancements, reimagining every aspect of a traditional product launch, from inviting our audience to interacting with them once at the venue.

To invite guests, we personified the Virgin Media Stream AI into a female human voice that engaged with our audience through personalised audio invites. The conversation with this mysterious voice continued with the audience during and after the experience. To alter the messaging throughout the experience we also created dynamic signage through projection mapping. These projected messages teased our audience as they arrived, then turned into product messaging during the keynote before leaving our audience with a CTA as they exited the experience.

By designing and including interactive insights and high-level speakers, we added credibility to the product and grabbed the audience's attention. To keep the Stream mantra of ‘less fuss, all the fun’ at the forefront, we decided to transform the main space into a 360 immersive cinema. We set the scene with an immersive experience of the current streaming landscape showcasing it as a hectic world of pixels before immersing our audience into the calm and curated world of Stream.

After the keynote delivered the key messaging, we designed a quirky hands-on experience for attendee’s in the form of bespoke scenic builds. They were transported to home-style environments, such as living rooms and bedrooms, contextualising where the product would be used in an immersive experience. To showcase how Stream worked, we had professionals talk them through the different features and then let individuals familiarise themselves with the product by playing around with it.

By launching Stream using a hands-on approach and unique set build, we were able to showcase the innovative nature of Stream and create a huge buzz with more than 300 pieces of coverage in key publications such as The Express, The Sun, This is Money, Pocket Lint and Uswitch.

Industry and media professionals now had full knowledge of Stream and Virgin Media successfully showcased what they had to offer the entertainment market.
