What the data says is really driving events this year

Events trends are two a penny right now. Here are three we think are worth your attention, and why they matter.

1. We forget almost everything we scroll past. We've never consumed more content, yet so little of it actually changes how we act, which is why IRL is becoming the real currency. VML's Future 100 report found that 87% of people say experiences leave them feeling changed, most content doesn't. Brands are starting to ask a different question: not just what will people post, but what will people actually do differently afterwards. A well-designed experience creates a momentum that outlasts the day itself.

2. One great event isn't enough anymore, brands want a sequel. Netflix built a Squid Game experience. Stranger Things has a West End play. Once you notice it, you see it everywhere: brands building a format and a story people come back for, year after year, instead of a one-off activation that has its moment and disappears. A one-off gets you a moment of attention, but a returning format creates loyalty. We're moving away from one-hit wonders and toward building formats with a long-term narrative. For brands thinking beyond a single touchpoint, a narrative arc is what turns attendees into a returning audience, and a returning audience is where the long-term value sits

3. One event, four generations in the room. Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X and Baby Boomers are often all under one roof, and they rarely want the same thing from it. Seven Events' 2026 trends report points out that events now have to be designed to engage a wide range of expectations and behaviours within one cohesive experience. Get that wrong and whichever generation the format wasn't built for switches off. It's the brands getting this right that are standing out from the crowd.
