Project Profile
Find Your Talent
for Suffolk County Council and
Colchester Borough Council
|
| Challenge |
Government
policy says that school age children should engage in cultural
activities for a minimum of 5 hours per week. CI was asked to map the
offer to people aged 0-19 of cultural organisations in Colchester and
South Suffolk. The research would be used to support the development of
a bid for a £2.5m project to pilot how this can be achieved. |
| Approach |
Data was
collected from all major cultural organisations serving The Haven
Gateway area in Suffolk and north Essex. It was tidied up and mapped
against population data. A digest of the cultural offer of each of the
organisations was produced. Methodologies included GIS data mapping,
data analysis, demographic profiling, preparation of an advocacy report
|
| Outcome |
The research
showed that in the previous 12 months cultural organisations in South
Suffolk and Colchester district had engaged with more than 80,000 young
people. Also that the area has a relatively high take-up of Arts
subjects at GCSE and A level. The partnership bid for £2.5m from
central government was not successful however, the research led to the
development of a mini-pilot in one area of the County with cultural
organisations developing an improved and more joined-up offer to young
people. |
